Kapil currently serves as Vice President – Battery Technology at Energy in Motion. Prior to this, he spent over 17 years at Tata Motors’ Engineering Research Centre, where he held the position of General Manager and Head of Battery and Charging Systems. Tata Motors is a leading Indian automobile company. During his tenure, he led the delivery of more than 25 high-voltage battery packs for both passenger cars and commercial vehicles, including buses and trucks. Before heading Battery Technology, he led Electric Vehicle System Design and played a key role in developing hybrid, electric, and fuel cell–powered vehicles at Tata Motors.
Kapil is an alumnus of IIT Madras and the National University of Singapore (NUS). He began his career in 1993 as a Graduate Engineer Trainee at a leading steel plant in India, where he was involved in the design and commissioning of equipment for hot strip rolling mills, arc furnaces, cold rolling mills, and material handling systems. In 1998, he received a full scholarship from NUS to pursue a Master of Engineering and relocated to Singapore. There, he worked with Advanced Systems Automation Systems Ltd (ASA) and Venture Corporation Ltd. as a Lead Engineer, designing IC manufacturing equipment (Sawing Sorting System – SSSV2, Solder Ball Placement (SBP) Machine, Flip-Chip Bonding Machine) and developing products for HP (Printers, Plotters), Intermec (Handheld Devices (CN30, CN3), Vehicle Mounted Devices – CV30, CV60), IBM (Desktop Computers), and Lenovo (Pocket PC). He returned to India in 2006 and joined Flextronics India in a leadership role, with responsibility for profit and loss (P&L).
